The invitation came and you have no idea what to wear. Here are some general rules to follow so that you will look and feel appropriate.
Informal
Choose a classic look like a high end sweater with dressy pants or silk blouse with flowing silk pants. Finish off the look with classic heels and understated jewelry.
City Attire
A black trouser suit is always correct or choose a matching top and skirt or pants with two to three inch heels. A stacked heel is preferable over a stiletto.
Business/Cocktail
You can never go wrong with a basic black dress, always fashionable and chic. Add a jacket to tone it down until you feel comfortable in your surroundings. You can remove it later if warranted.
A long dress or skirt is called for, but you can get away with a mid calf skirt and highly embellished top. Compensate with elaborate jewelry if you don’t have formal wear.
Black Tie
Even though this invitation implies a long dress, you can wear a dinner suit. Go for a formal but understated look.
Business Casual
Your every day business attire is perfectly acceptable as long as it is neat and chic. Add a few accessories and embellishments to bring it up to the notch of an occasion.
