It’s what we all seek, and the basis of a healthy glowing appearance. Here’s what you need to know to have that much sought after flawless complexion.
Great Skin Starts from the Inside
Water is the number one route to great skin. Don’t just drink it when you’re thirsty, because if you wait until then your skin is already parched. Carry it with you wherever you go. It will keep your skin bright and glowing, flushing out toxins, and deeply hydrating and plumping skin. Celebs keep water bottles frozen, so they can grab them and go and stay hydrated throughout the day. The water will slowly defrost.
Keep It Cold
Drinking ice cold water is a key beauty secret. Your body will heat itself up in order to absorb the water, burning up to 35 calories with each eight ounce bottle consumed. Studies at the University of Switzerland have heavily documented this all important difference.
Cleanse Ever So Gently
The biggest mistake women make is over cleansing. There is no need to do anything but rinse even the oiliest face in the morning. If you need to scrub something in the morning, scour your sink. You have done nothing all night but lay on that pillow. A few oils may have accumulated, but your face has not become dirty. Unless you are in need of a cleaner pillow case there is no way that your face is in need of soap in the morning. If you absolutely must use something more than water, take a dime sized amount of powdered milk and add it to enough water to create a soft paste. This mixture will gently cleanse and exfoliate at the same time. I hope you start treating your face less harshly. You’re only irritating your skin unnecessarily.
Exfoliating Techniques
You really only need to exfoliate your face two or three times a week. Use gentle circular strokes and work the exfoliant into the crevices of your skin. There are many exfoliants on the market today. Avoid rough or coarse particles when selecting one. Certain brands can tear delicate skin fibers. An at home microdermabrasion kit is a cost effective major exfoliating process, and will greatly improve skin’s tone and texture. It’s usually done once a week and is a two step process. Look for kits that feature self heating.
Toning Secrets
Most toners contain alcohol, too drying for sensitive facial skin. Toners should only be applied where oils collect. Press toner saturated on a cotton ball into the crease of the nose, on the forehead, and chin area. It’s not necessary to tone the entire face unless there is makeup residue.
Toner Options
There is one toner used most often in the celeb beauty world. It’s good old fashioned witch hazel, and it can usually be purchased at drugstores for less than two dollars. It will last forever! For very oily skin or extremely clogged pores use hydrogen peroxide mixed with an equal amount of warm water. Apply it with a cotton ball and rinse thoroughly after blotting at the most severe areas.
Be Careful with Lip Balm
The same ingredients that make balms feel like they’re working (such as menthol and camphor) are actually pulling moisture from lips. This leads to more cracking and the need for more lip balm. Switch to a moisturizing lipstick or a balm made primarily from Aloe, which actually heals the lips.
